The “Viral” fever has caught on and how?
Cheap data and affordable smartphones have made every other person a video blogger. With unemployment at its peak in the country and the sultry climate together have put many a man woman and child to the task of “creating” homemade videos which somehow find their way to the screens on our palms and literally leave us ‘dumb’ founded.
Gone are the days of Gormint Aunty and Dhinchak Pooja coz there are newer entrants to the viral video market who have gone to new lows of stupidity and even newer highs of popularity.
Take for example this guy who wants to flaunt his well toned (ahem) chest wherever he goes and in the course of this exhibitionist behaviour has found more opposers than admirers.

His question though is very thought provoking. He asks why is he made to bear the brunt of public anger for skin show when nothing of this sort happens with women who wear “exposing” attire. Talk about gender equality!
Then there is this very self-assured lady who thinks her day to day activities would definitely interest her ‘friends’ ; be it her tea time or what she has to offer for lunch or dinner or even if the viewer approves of her choice of clothing. The videos she uploads last only a few seconds but the aftershock definitely lasts longer.

When I look at these videos which are clearly made with an ambition to go viral I think about the psyche of these vloggers and fail to understand their need to find approval or appreciation from random strangers. Has life left us so lonely in this age of coming together of social media binders that we may not be on talking terms with our immediate family but find solace in the hundreds of strangers who stay with us for a fleeting second online and then vanish into cyberdust.
Whatever may be the case, the lust to go trending has definitely taken many of our courageous netizens to very high levels of display and sharing, sharing inconsequential details of mundane lives to get some meaning out of them.
