Internet is adding new avenues and opening new ventures for Indians especially in rural areas. From advanced technology to basic science one is getting dependent on Internet. School kids depend on internet for their work and projects. Now, Facebook has expanded the reach of internet to more and more people in India. Facebook free basic app will now provide access to free internet services across the country.
Internet.org has created raves in nation and its launched was partnered by Reliance Communications, the initiative was launched in February. Till May it reached 8 Lakhs subscribers. Initial access was for six states Gujarat, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Telangana and Tamil Nadu.
Internet.org began its journey from Africa, and till now has covered 17 countries — including India, Pakistan and Indonesia — in short across three continents.
If we talk about the benefits then one can search for jobs, local information, can get general information related to childcare, maternity etc.
Zuckerberg when visited IITD said “Connecting people in India is one of the most important things we can do for the world. Our mission is to connect everyone in the world” and “India is the world’s largest democracy. If u want to connect everyone to Internet, can’t leave India out”.
Indeed there are 130 million Facebook users in India and internet.org is giving platform to access the internet and get connected to the outer world.
