In a rare example of showcase of unconditional love, an Indian man changed his sex for his lover based in Pakistan.
Gaurav Sharma, a trained Kathak dancer from Lucknow, underwent sex change operation to become ‘Meera’ to live a ‘normal’ life with Rizwan, who lives across the border.
Meera and Rizwan met on social networking site Facebook around five years ago for a topic related to her Ph.D., while she was about to get married to.
“The topic was related to Sufism which has always reasoned everything around me. He represents a Sufi school of thought too and was helping me understand the nuances for my work,” she said.
Over the time, they developed closeness with regular conversations. Rizwan proposed Meera for marriage and she accepted it.
The couple, who have never met in real life, felt that they are an extension of each other.
As per Meera, her relationship with Rizwan is more of a spiritual one and is beyond the physical constrains set by society. She explained her love her citing Rumi and said, ““Reason is powerless in the expression of love.”
The duo decided to go for sex change operation after Rizwan’s mother started searching a bride for him.
Meera consulted a doctor in Mumbai who sent her for six months of counseling, nearly a year ago. Her entire family, except her sister, was against the idea but she didn’t stop and went ahead with the decision.
She underwent hormone therapy following which three surgeries were done on her in August, September and October.
Now, she is anxiously waiting for Rizwan who is expected to land in India in March. When questioned about her trust in Rizwan and her future life with him, she said she has immense faith in the power of almighty and believes that God will do whatever is in best interest of her.
Their story sheerly proves that if love is true, it overpower the barriers of age, sex, religion, border and everything for that matter.
