In a shocking incident, women in Bengaluru were molested by drunk men on New Year’s Eve near the MG Road and Brigade Road, two of the most sought-after areas of the city. However, the surroundings are not that great after 10 pm and we will talk about that later.
As unfortunate as it may sound but incidents of molestation and rape have become a part of every day morning headlines, but what shocked me the most was, around 1500 policemen were deployed in these two areas, according to Bengaluru Mirror and these sad dogs were still able to do what they intended to.
Coming back to what has happened, Bengaluru Police reported that they were outnumbered by the unruly men who came in huge numbers on bikes and cars, and onlookers said that policemen just stood as spectators. Yes, this is what you are paid for right?? If it’s true then there is not a single difference left between these policemen and the drunken mob.
Noticeably, New Year crowd in the city is always unruly but the deadline for celebrations this time was still extended till 2 am and this was reportedly done under pressure from some commercial establishments, especially the drinking joints in the area.
For those who have experienced nightlife of Bangaluru, they might know the fact that MG Road turns into a red light area after 10 pm, with brokers in rickshaws and sex workers being easily available, without any hassle from the police department but, people still mark MG Road as one of the most sought after area of the city. However, there is also no denying the fact that Brigade Road and MG Road offers the best nightlife but its close affinity to the city’s red light area demanded better security arrangements.
Meanwhile, Bengaluru Police Department added that there were no complaints of molestation filed despite several eyewitnesses and photographic evidence being available and all the women who reached out to them were duly helped and Police Personnel even chased off men who were trying to take advantage of women.
Eyewitnesses, on the other hand, have further reported that women took off their heels and started running for help when the situation got out of hand. I can not even imagine, what they have felt in those moments and the news just force me to think that:
“Our Leaders talk about development, they talk about anti-terrorism, they even talk about women empowerment and promise women security but is this what they mean by women security? A group of ‘I don’t care how many men’ can grope anyone, molest anyone and openly abuse physically in front of 1500 policemen and those poor girls needed to run for their lives. This is not the India that I asked for when voting for these so-called national drivers”.
And if we want to see ourselves in the list of developed nations, our Government should first eliminate the vermins of our own society rather than spending ‘Trillions of Rupees’ on infrastructure.
It’s not only about Delhi or Bengaluru being shitholes for women, incidents like these happen on daily basis and we tend to ignore them due to their increasing numbers. The most recent one being the rape of a US national tourist by 5 Indians including guides and bus drivers.
However, the incident has also highlighted the fact that after several polls being won by various parties in last 5 decades or so, based on agendas relating to women empowerment and leaders boasting about their steps towards women safety, there are still many citizens who are unable to keep their zippers up.
Moreover, they don’t even have the fear of law. Is Indian Law This Weak? Isn’t there a need to have strict laws? I think we need to change the whole criminal law itself because the one that exists, is useless or maybe the authorities responsible for law implementation are not taking their work seriously.
Shockingly, our idiotic leaders will now blame these women for wearing revealing clothes and being out of their homes this late. They will never understand the fact that what they are saying, contradicts the Right of Freedom and Choice that India, being one of the biggest democracies, boast of.
Not so Incredible India!!
