1. Bengaluru Mass Molestation: ‘Credible Evidence’ Found.
Bengaluru Police filed a su-moto FIR in connection with the mass harassment incident that shocked the nation on 1st January. The FIR was registered after investigating team found ‘Credible footage’ from 45 CCTV cameras installed on MG Road. Meanwhile, National Commission for Women issued a summon to Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara on Tuesday for his remarks stating that ‘western ways’ and ‘short clothes’ were to blame. He further compared women to ‘sugar’ and said “they will always attract ants”.
2. Dawood Ibrahim’s Assets Worth Rs 15,000 Crore Seized by UAE Government.
In a major action taken against underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, UAE Government seized his assets worth Rs 15,000 crore on Tuesday. The seizure came on the same day when Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh said that the government is continuing its efforts to bring Dawood Ibrahim back to India. His location was last confirmed to be Pakistan, by the United States.
3. Paytm Gets Approval For Payments Bank.
Reserve Bank of India gave the final approval to Paytm for its payment bank on Tuesday and the service is expected to be launched within a month or so. Paytm already has around 15 million users and with the target of 200 million users, including savings and current accounts as well as mobile wallet, for the year 2017, Paytm Payments Bank is expected to touch the 500 million users mark by 2020. The services will be launched in 12 northeast and central cities in India after which, the company plans to target western and southern India.
4. Justice Khehar Sworn in as New Chief Justice of India.
President Pranab Mukherjee will swear in the 44th Chief Justice of Supreme Court on 4th January 2017. Once appointed, Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar will become the 1st Sikh Chief Justice of India.
5. Pakistan Blind Cricket Team allowed to Play T20 World Cup in India.
Pakistan Blind Cricket Team has obtained the ‘No Objection Certificates’ from both India and Pakistan for participating in the second T20 Blind World Cup starting from 31 January in India. Australia, England, South Africa, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, West Indies, Bangladesh, Nepal, India and Pakistan will play in the tournament.
6. Donald Trump to Address his First Press Conference After Election Victory.
US President-elect, Donald Trump will hold his first press conference on 11th January, as per his Twitter announcement on Tuesday. The press conference is scheduled nine days before his sworn in ceremony as the 45th President of the United States of America. Donald Trump did not reveal any further details, making it the most anticipated press conference since US Presidential Election.
7. Market Gains Due to Positive Global Cues.
BSE Sensex gained 58.55 points and reached 26,701.79 during the early trade on Wednesday due to regressive buying by Domestic Institutional Investors after strong global cues. NSE Nifty was up by 18.20 points and crossed the 8,200 mark by reaching 8,210.45 points.
