Muhammad Kutty Ismail Paniparambil, also known as Mammootty, is the biggest star in Mollywood. Mammootty was born on September 7, 1951, and grew up in a middle-class Muslim family in the village of Chempu near Vaikom in the Kottayam district in the Indian state of Kerala. His father, Ismail, was a wholesaler of clothes and grains. His mother, Fatima, was a housewife. He is the eldest child among 3 boys and 3 girls. His elementary education was at the Government High School at Kulasekharamangalam, Kottayam.
In the 1960s, his father moved his family to Ernakulam, where he attended Government School. He took a course before he went to college at Sacred Heart College, Thevara.
