On Tuesday, a child was killed and 32 Indian peacekeepers were injured due to an explosion in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo city of Goma, as per the UN mission. The peacekeepers were on their morning walk when the blast took place. However, the cause of this blowout was not immediately clear.
According to Ismael Salumu, an Imam in a nearby mosque, three peacemakers were also killed. He said – we heard the explosions and cries, to which we immediately ran toward the place.
Roughly, 18,000 uniformed UN personnels are operating in Congo to maintain the peacekeeping mission. However, millions have died in regional conflicts, between 1996-2003.
