Syria has been under great threats from a very long time. People living in Syria have been through and are still going through a lot, and one of the major victims of this deadly atmosphere are the children living in Syria. The number of children living under this atrocity and siege has nearly doubled in less than a year, which is why almost 5 Lakh children are living under 16 besieged areas in Syria. They do not have any basic facilities that one requires to live, as well as, are completely disconnected from constant humanitarian aid.
Anthony Lake, UNICEF Executive Director, said that life in Syria has been an endless nightmare for millions of people living here. Thousands of children have almost lost their childhood in between the chaos and constant bombing that this country is going through. They are afraid to go to school or even to play, due to the alarming number of deaths and injuries that kids have faced in here. He added, “This is no way to live and too many are dying”.
As there are little to no safe places for kids to play, they are now resorting to basements, schools and hospitals to continue playing and seeking medical care when needed. However, there are a lot of people, who are doing their bit of volunteering to ease these kids’ miserable life. In one area, the volunteers built a playground and a park, by linking various basements due to which almost 200 children come to play here on day-to-day basis, just to escape the deadly scenario. In another case, 250 girls are being educated everyday in an underground school.
The ongoing conflicts have been threatening the lives of Syrians for more than six years now, and UNICEF has now renewed their cause of action for the betterment of lives living in these besieged areas with nothing.
