Sayaani, the new song from Pad Man is here and while the story revolves around the issue of menstrual hygiene in rural India, this song is all about celebrating the womanhood. Apparently, a teenager starts menstruating in the village and all the women in the village celebrate the day by conducting a ritual called “Shudhikaran”. Sayaani is a celebration of a woman stepping into her adulthood.
The visuals of Sayaani leave us parched as the song includes only the visuals that we have already seen in Pad Man’s curtain-raiser. While the women are celebrating that another girl has come to an age of becoming a woman, the boys in the village compare the occasion to test match, when Akshay Kumar asks about the celebration. Akshay who is playing the role of social worker Arunachalam Muruganantham gets struck by this comment and raises a question in his speech by stating if in Test Matches batsmen get two pads to protect their legs, why women don’t have access to pads or not allowed to use them while menstruating.
