There’s expected to be some fun with a little bit of Sweden now present in the heart of Mumbai.
The city of dreams can now begin to unravel somethings more interesting in the online world of shopping. Wondering what that is? Well, after months of waiting, Ikea’s online store in Mumbai has arrived.
The Swedish ready-to-assemble furniture store, a hallmark name in the world of home furnishings and lifestyle industry has finally arrived in Mumbai via an online store after months of waiting. What’s rather incredible is that Ikea’s online store in Mumbai has around 7500 furniture items to choose from.
The wide range of offerings in Ikea’s online store in Mumbai shall range anywhere from home furnishing solutions to electronics, with there being plenty of items to choose from.
But all that said, one’s got to understand why Ikea has opted for an online platform to cater to a growing, developed and a highly urbanized city such as Mumbai. Is this a one-time strategy or is this a marketing mix of which an online channel of sales is but a temporary solution?
Apparently, the fact is that India’s no easy market to capture. In its present capacity, Ikea, a new entrant to one of the world’s most competitive markets, has to compete against what can only be hailed as successfully-established brands such as Pepperfry and Urban Ladder.
So Ikea’s online store in Mumbai is part of a multichannel approach to reach 100 million customers in the next three years. But what lies ahead of the Swedish brand is a rather ambitious aim. By the year 2030, Ikea aims to be present in as many as 49 cities in India.
And that’s not all. The Swedish brand is all geared up to cater to a giant consumer base of around 100 million over the course of the next three years. In that regard, the online store will function parallelly to the firm’s offline operations.
In what seems an interesting development, a proper big format store shall also open in Navi Mumbai, arguably the fastest-growing part of the ambitious city.
Furthermore, in an official statement, the brand issued the following to mark its memorable entry in Mumbai:
“IKEA’s unique Mumbai market entry, led by e-commerce marks a significant milestone in the Swedish retailer’s new retail direction.” In addition, IKEA added that it will focus on both digital and physical formats to reach customers.
There will be as many as 1000 products that will be priced below INR 200. And where the common price points are concerned, then the brand happened to share that the pricing strategy shall remain uniform across various both online and offline operations. As for the deliveries across Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, they’ll take anywhere between 4 to 7 working days. The same would be subject to availability and distance from the centre.
But Ikea’s India journey can be traced easily into the not so distant past. It was during August in 2018 that Ikea opened a full-fledged store in Hyderabad. Where the footfall is concerned, then as on date, around 3 million customers have visited the said store down South and as many as 8 million have visited the India website of the famous brand.
That told, in its present capacity, Ikea has four land sites that are in the states of Maharashtra, Telangana, Delhi NCR, and Karnataka as it prepares to further create a roadmap to penetrate the competitive market.
