2016 has been a rather happening year for Samsung as its flagship smartphone Galaxy S7 outsold the likes of iPhone 6S, iPhone 7, Google Pixel XL and many more. When the company was enjoying the success of Galaxy S7, Galaxy Note 7 entered the market. It rocketed to the top of worldwide sales charts and then went with a ‘literal bang’. Samsung Galaxy Note 7 started exploding when it felt like, further deteriorating the company image and forced Samsung to stop its production, leading to huge losses for the company.
However, Samsung is looking forward to a new start in 2017 and is planning big with the launch of Samsung Galaxy S8. Numerous rumors about the device have flooded the internet and a combination of these will definitely result a formidable force in the smartphone industry.
1. Design and Display
Samsung would like to step up their game after the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco and going by the rumours the display of Galaxy S8 will cover around 90% of the front area and may come with a curved edge design. Rumors further added that the display will be a 2K one rather than the previously teased 4K display because the technology might not be launch ready and cost way more than the targeted price band.
Samsung Galaxy S8 might come with an integrated fingerprint scanner in the bezel less display and the company may ditch the home screen button design, leaving an all glass front protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4.
The size of the display will either be 5.1 or 5.5 inches with 2160 x 3840 resolution and pressure sensitive technology.
2. Processor and Software
Galaxy smartphones are one of the most powerful devices in Samsung’s lineup and the company is looking carry on the traditions. According to recent leaks, Galaxy S8 may come with Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 835 processor clocked at 3.2 GHz which is capable of delivering more power and consume less juice from the battery.
However, the smartphone may be launched in two variants as another leak suggested that the Exynos 8895 Processor coupled with Mali-G71 GPU may also debut in the Galaxy series. Noticeably, Exynos 8895 is 1.8 times faster than Snapdragon 835 Processor and is capable of supporting 4K resolution and VR tech. Samsung Galaxy S8 is further rumored to come with a beefed up 6GB RAM and 256GB of maximum internal storage.
It’s almost certain that S8 will feature Android Nougat 7.0 and since Samsung has a tendency of added homegrown apps in the Galaxy Series, there are rumors suggesting that the company may come up with a new Digital Assistant like, Siri and Google Assistant, capable of being integrated with various apps of the smartphone.
3. Camera
This is a department where Samsung has done some serious improvements in the past few years and as a result the Samsung Galaxy S7 even bettered the one found in iPhone 6 in some aspects.
Samsung may turn the tables this time around and launch the best camera ever seen in a smartphone. According to the rumors, Samsung Galaxy S8 will features a dual 12MP+13MP camera at the rear like the ones present in Huawei P9 and iPhone 7 Plus. However, we can expect a fight from Samsung in 2017 too.
4. Other Features
Samsung Galaxy Note 7’s battery has caused a lot of problems to the company this year and Samsung would not want to repeat history with their new flagship device. Taking a lesson from their previous mistakes, it is rumoured that LG has been contacted to provide a battery for Galaxy S8 which is further rumored to come with 4200 mAh of juice.
Walking on a path laid down by iPhone 7, Samsung may ditch the 3.5 mm headphone jack to make the smartphone slimmer than the previous version and getting the space for larger battery, simultaneously.
However, Apple’s decision to let go the headphone jack was not well received by the users and Samsung might want to re-think about their strategies.
Our Expectations
Samsung Galaxy S7 has been a great success worldwide but the smartphone has its share of flaws. To revive its image in the industry, Samsung should buckle up and launch a ‘no nonsense’ smartphone this time. Here are the rumors that Samsung should prove true in order to help the company to regain its position in the smartphone industry.
Dual-lens cameras seem to be the next big thing, so we expect Samsung to get on board and provide a 3500mAh battery if not 4200mAh.
Samsung is sure power up the Galaxy S8, the company should stick to the Snapdragon 835 chip and with Exynos processor in this flagship device, making it one of the most performance oriented smartphones ever. RAM is likely to be 4GB but 6GB of RAM will be an added advantage for Galaxy S8.
Everything said and done, one thing is for sure, Samsung Galaxy S8 will be the next benchmark setter for the company if not a piece of perfection.
