Xiaomi Redmi Y2 has been launched in India with some of the best features ever seen in the budget segment coupled with a very attractive price tag. The Xiaomi Redmi Y2 is essentially a re-branded Xiaomi Redmi S2 smartphone which was unveiled in China recently. The Redmi Y2, which is the successor to the selfie centric Redmi Y1, has taken some inspiration from the Redmi Note 5 Pro, as far as the design is concerned and when it comes to under-the-hood power, the new Xiaomi smartphone is also powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset.
Other major highlights of the Xiaomi Redmi Y2 includes a dual rear camera setup, a high-end 16-megapixel selfie shooter which is backed by AI features and beautification modes coupled with an efficient as well as powerful processor. The Xiaomi Redmi Y2 comes with a unimetal body with polycarbonate inserts while Xiaomi has also offered facial recognition, along with a fingerprint scanner, for biometrics.
That being said, since Xiaomi Redmi Y2 is a selfie-focused smartphone with a 16-megapixel front camera, it is also backed by a soft front LED flash, Auto HDR and pixel binning technology which combines the information from four pixels in order to create one large 2.0µm pixel. Another highlight of the smartphone is the fact that it comes with a dedicated microSD card slot which means that users won’t have to compromise between either an extra cellular connection or expandable storage.
Under the hood, the Redmi Y2 comes with a tried and tested Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC making it the fifth smartphone from Xiaomi to be launched with the 14nm-based, octa-core chipset. On the other hand, the inclusion of a processor like Snapdragon 630 could have been better, the Snapdragon 625 is still an upgrade from the Snapdragon 435 SoC found on the Redmi Y1 and it should be more than enough for Xiaomi to target its audience.
