Facebook is all geared up to tackle online extremists by its counter-terrorism strategy. The company also posted a job description for a counter-terrorism researcher on its website.
The job description stated that the candidate will be responsible for identifying and modifying the latest tools, infrastructure and tactics used by various terrorist organisations that affect Facebook and its systems. This will help the social giant to defend and disrupt the terrorist threats.
The move by Facebook came months after the micro-blogging site Twitter searched and blocked several terrorist’s accounts. The company has claimed that it was successful in taking down 95 percent of the terrorism related content provided by the Israeli Government since September, as Facebook tied up with Israel to track down all the terrorist content from the website.
On the other hand, Twitter has blocked approximately 125000 accounts since January 2016 which were related to ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) terror group. Twitter has also expanded its Global Public Policy team partnership with other organisations operating to counter violent extremism online.
Twitter, continuing its efforts to tackle online terrorism promotion, lately suspended 2,35,000 accounts which were promoting terrorism in the last six months.
All the social networking websites have joined hands with international organisations to tackle terrorism due to the recent elevation in the number of terrorist activities. All the countries in the world have started to work shoulder to shoulder and the recent steps by the tech companies have made the movement stronger than ever.
