After Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali said that the Indian shuttler PV Sindhu may be provided with a better coach, the ace shuttler said that her coach is the best.
The star shuttler PV Sindhu captured the imagination of the entire nation by winning a silver medal at the Rio Olympics. She has completely ignored the offer of Mohammed Mahmood Ali for a ‘better coach’. Instead she said that her current guru Pullela Gopichand is the ‘best coach’ for her.
Sindhu added that she has been training under Gopi since she was 10 and feels that Gopi sir is the best coach.
She also said, ‘I don’t have to say anything about it (minister’s comment)’.
Her remarks came after Telangana Deputy Chief Minister triggered an outrage on social media with his comment that the 21-year-old shuttler may be provided with a ‘better coach’ that will help her fetch gold in the next Olympics at Tokyo.
On her arrival Sindhu received a rousing welcome in her hometown and was congratulated by Telangana government for her performance at the Rio Games.
Pullela Gopichand has always produced top-class shuttlers, including 2012 London Olympics bronze medallist Saina Nehwal and K Srikanth, also a quarterfinalist in Rio Olympics 2016.
Though Sindhu produced a spirited performance in the opening game, Sindhu lost the women’s singles badminton final against Spain’s Carolina Marin and settled for the silver medal.
With this achievement Sindhu also became the fifth Indian woman to grab a medal in Olympics history.
