Pakistan has not been given an invitation for the Kabaddi World Cup 2016 which is scheduled in India from 7th October.
India and Pakistan are going through a stiff situation due to the Uri attacks and the surgical strike on militant outposts by India at the LOC (Line Of Control). The Pakistani Government has been facing spurn from all over the world and is experiencing immense pressure from the neighboring countries for a diplomatic solution.
Almost every Asian country has boycotted any political and sporting event with or in Pakistan. According to the Indian representatives, the decision was taken with keeping in mind the international relationship situation as well as the security of the Pakistan team.
Recently, every SAARC member boycotted the SAARC Summit which was scheduled in Islamabad, Pakistan due to the recent tensions brewing between India and Pakistan. The issue became serious when over 150000 US citizens signed a bill to declare Pakistan as a ‘terrorist state’.
Pakistan is one of the biggest contenders of the Kabaddi World Cup as Pakistani team has already won the Asian Kabaddi Cup and has also defeated India in an event in Vietnam.
Pakistan Kabaddi Federation Secretary Muhammad Sarwar said that Pakistan and India are the strongest teams in the tournament and he felt sorry for the team as they have to suffer due to the strained relationship between the two countries.
The PKF has also requested the International Kabaddi Federation to postpone the World Cup or change the venue of the event so that the Pakistani players won’t suffer.
Reacting to this, CEO of International Kabaddi Federation, Deoraj Chaturvedi said: “All we know is the tournament is scheduled to start on 7th October and that is when it will begin.”
