Delhi Dynamos and FC Pune City fought for a win at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Thursday but both the teams had to satisfy themselves with a draw. Delhi Dynamos started their ISL 2016 campaign with a bang after defeating the defending champions Chennaiyin FC in their first game of the season, however, after that match, Delhi Dynamos has not registered a single win till now.
FC Pune City has been struggling with its performance since the last couple of games and this was a good opportunity for Delhi to put an end to its winless streak and that too in front of the home crowd. However, when the game started, it was FC Pune City who impressed us the most.
Both the teams were determined to take the lead in the first half and Delhi Dynamos were quick to adopt attacking strategies, as the first chance at the goal came in the 3rd minute when Addy shot the ball toward the nets on a pass by Florent Malouda but the ball went wide of the goalpost.
FC Pune City’s backline was put to test time and again as Dynamos were able to tackle their defence and took the ball in the opponent’s territory frequently. The crowd cheered every time Malouda had the ball and was breaching Pune City’s defence.
But the first goal of the game was unexpectedly scored by FC Pune City, just before half time and the home crowd couldn’t believe what they saw. Rahul Bheke came in from the far right and passed the ball to Tato, who out jumped Souvik and headed the ball towards the left side of the goalpost. Edathodika being at the right side after following Bheke, had no chance of stopping the strike.
The game went into halftime with Pune City Being in the lead by 1-0.
The second half saw a more confident Pune side as every attack at their goalpost was defended by the visitors. Delhi wanted to put an end to their winless streak and the team targeted the opponent’s goal post aggressively but were not able to score the equalizer until the 79th minute.
Marcelinho’s free-kick in the 79th minute, reached Milan Singh whose grounded shot went past the opponent’s defensive wall and straight into the nets. The ground erupted with cheer as they thought the home side is finally going towards their first win in the last four games.
Delhi Dynamos tried to score the winning goal but Pune City was content with defending their position and the match ended with a draw.
