Sunrisers Hyderabad showcased an amazing display of bowling and grabbed the victory by defeating Rising Pune Supergiants by four runs in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday. The high voltage bowling performance of Hyderabad not only led them to win over Pune but also led the team to top the points table.
Hyderabad won the toss and opted to bat first. The team got off to a very bad start and kept on losing wickets at regular intervals. Shikhar Dhawan made 33 runs off 27 balls and Warner scored 11 runs off 14 balls, soon in the fourth over of the game R.P. Singh dismissed in-form Warner. Despite an early loss of a wicket, Shikhar played positively and he was well supported by incoming batsman Kane Williamson at the other end. By the end of the powerplay, the team was at 34/1. Williamson and Dhawan were playing with a slow pace but were scoring consistently. Williamson smashed 32 runs off 37 balls. Shikhar was looking forward to make another half century but was dismissed by veteran off-spinner Ashwin.
Yuvraj Singh came to bat and supported Williamson. Yuvraj took his time to get settle and after that he unleashed his cricketing shots striking two sixes and one four in three balls and Hyderabad was back in the game. Yuvraj smashed 23 runs off 21 balls. But as we know Dhoni can work wonder, so he changed the bowling line-up and gave the over to young leg-spinner Zampa and his trick worked as Zampa dismissed Yuvraj in the 16th over of the game. Following him, Williamson was departed in the 18th over by Zampa. Hyderabad wickets started falling as Zampa dismissed Henriques (10), Deepak Hooda (14), Naman Ojha (7) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1) by the end of the innings.
Six-wicket haul by Zampa stopped Hyderabad to make challenging total and the team made an average total of 137 runs with the loss of 8 wickets.
Chasing a target of 138 runs, Pune got off to a disastrous start. Opener Ajinkya Rahane was sent back on the third ball of the first over and his opening partner Usman Khawaja was run out in the fourth over at 11. Bailey and Ashwin both were promoted up in the batting order and they played sensibly as they took the team past 50-run mark after completion of 10 overs without losing any wicket. Bailey smashed 34 runs off 40 balls and Ashwin posted 29 runs off 25 balls.
But Moises Henriques gave Hyderabad much needed breakthrough as he sent back Bailey in the 12th over of the game. Ashwin too was dismissed in the 14th over.
After Ashwin was dismissed the fall of the wickets of Pune followed as Saurabh Tiwary (9), skipper Dhoni and Thisera Perera (17) failed to cruise Pune towards Victory and lost an easy game to Hyderabad.
An impressive spell of 3 wickets by Ashish Nehra led Hyderabad to win and Pune sum up the total of 133 runs with the loss of 8 wickets after the completion of their innings.
