Cristiano Ronaldo was taken off on a stretcher in the middle of the 2016 European Championship final between Portugal and France and the Portuguese football star was crying his heart out. Without their talisman, the Portuguese team was left at a crucial stage and the game was on their shoulders.
After 24 minutes of the game, the biggest star of Portugal was substituted and with the loss of their biggest hope, the world expected Portugal to lose their hope but the team stunned everyone when they defeated the host team on their ground in the 109th minute of the game. Eder’s long shot in the 11 minutes from the end of extra-time beat the France dreams of winning the championship.
After Ronaldo failed to recover from a heavy challenge by France’s attacking midfielder Dimitri Payet, he was taken off the ground and his team carried the match into extra time. Ronaldo returned to sit on the bench, his left knee bandaged and limped onto the pitch to encourage his teammates and his team surprised him after they defeated France by 1-0.
Antoine Griezmann, France’s star was struggling to make a goal from the start but Portugal’s amazing defend stopped him hitting an open header from 6 yards. After semifinal victory over Germany, France had plenty of chances to blow the guest team off in finals, yet they sank miserably in the game.
Rui Patricio made a string of stunning saves and ensured the 90 minutes ended goalless.
