Barcelona 6-1 Sporting Gijon, the La Liga game that has managed to keep up the pressure on Real Madrid as the Catalans climbed at top of the ladder with 57 points. As for Barcelona, they have maintained their momentum in the title race by winning all the last five games, the latest one being the hammering down of Sporting Gijon by 6-1.
Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez opened up the tally in quick succession during the early states of the game in the 9th and 11th minute respectively. However, the 11th-minute strike was not actually from the Barca player, rather Juan Rodriguez failed to anticipate Suarez’s shot and ended up conceding a goal by himself. (the failed shank must have pierced through his heart)

Despite the early dominance by the red side in the Barcelona 6-1 Sporting Gijon, Barca’s inconsistent back line was again questioned in the 21st minute and they still had no answer to it. Busquets was handed over the responsibility to defend when the attackers went in for another strike, but the tables were turned when Barcelona lost possession of the ball. Burgui slipped Sergio Alvarez into the backfield after finding an off Busquets and while Sergio failed to go past the finish line, Castro converted it into a goal on the rebound. Barca was that defenseless against Sporting Gijon!!

However, it was Luis Suarez who ended Gijon’s celebration moments later and gave his team a 2-goal lead in the 27th-minute once again. The second half began in a similar fashion as in the 49th minute, Sporting Gijon conceded another one. Babin lost possession of the ball and Messi was quick to pounce it for Alcacer, who was in as Suarez’s substitute, and the latter made no mistake to send the lead up by 4-1.
Coming back from this was never easy for Sporting Gijon, but what made matters worse for them at Camp Nou was Neymar and Rakitic, who hunted down the goalpost despite having an upper hand gave Luis Enrique a thumping win over Sporting Gijon by 6-1.
