Virat Kohli has joined the group of Bollywood superstars Ranbir Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra as the brand ambassador of Pepsi. PepsiCo announced that it will end its 11-year association with Indian Cricket Team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
After Dhoni failed to get India over the line in the 1st T20I against the West Indies, the news that he will be terminated from Pepsi, spread all over the social media. This may indicate that the long reign of Dhoni as one of the most wanted cricketers for the advertisers may end soon. Dhoni will be replaced by India’s test skipper Virat Kohli as the icon for the company.
PepsiCo had a great association with the Indian Cricket over the years, they have always picked legends including Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid as the brand ambassadors.
At the end of 2014, Dhoni retired as the Captain of the Test, then he represented 18 brands but in two years they were reduced to 10, now he has lost another one. In past 18 months, the India’s one-day skipper has lost association with Dabur, Sony, Amrapali and now Pepsi too has terminated him.
Another young cricket star KL Rahul may work his way into the ad space soon as he is hitting high on the ground. The arrival of these new faces may end Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s career in advertising. (That can or cannot be true as he is MAAHI!!)
Currently, he is gearing up for the release of his biopic and may be Dhoni will advertise more mature brands which will not be youth-centric.
