The test match captain of the Indian team Virat Kohli has been nominated for the top sports award of the country. Virat has been recommended for the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Another of his team-mate Ajinkya Rahane has also been recommended for the Arjuna Award.
Virat is currently leading Royal Challengers Bangalore as a Captain in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Since Sachin Tendulkar retired in 2013, Virat has been the top batsman of the country and his consistent performance is often compared to the little master.
A BCCI source confirmed that Virat’s name has been sent for the Khel Ratna and Rahane’s name has been sent for the Arjuna Award to the Sports Ministry.
Virat became the captain of India for the Test Matches in 2014-15 after Dhoni retired and since then he had led India to historic Test series wins in Sri Lanka and South Africa. The batsman have always displayed the best innings with the bat while chasing targets in limited-overs cricket. He recently smashed his maiden century in the IPL against Gujarat Lions.
Ajinkya Rahane has also brought stability in the middle order of the team with his consistent performances in every format and in tough overseas conditions.
