India has produced several cricket legends. It’s done so in the past. It will continue to do so in the times ahead, for the nature of the sport is such, given the excitement, it brings. On top of it, the sheer abundance of talent that exists in the country, undeterred by the enormity of challenge it takes to become a full-fledged international cricketer. Nothing can be tougher, right? But one must remember a perspective. What can be better than noting a development where one of the country’s finest talents, particularly from the yesteryears is given the recognition, by way of drawing from the individual’s great experience? Well, if you want the nature and status of cricket to be in sound hands, you’d want it to grow from the experience of a great.
He might have retired years back, but when the name of Madan Lal is taken, even today, the eyes of the cricket lover get numb remembering the glorious yesteryears. Well, Mr. Madan Lal, a key hero famous for India’s maiden Cricket World Cup triumph pertaining to the 1983 World Cup, is now all set to be a part of the BCCI’s Advisory Committee. He is one of the new names in BCCI’s Advisory Committee.
A fine athlete who always put himself on the line of duty for the country, Mr. Lal is the scorer of over 1,000 Test runs (62 innings, 39 Tests), including 5 fifties, and a clincher of 71 wickets from 39 Tests. A fine all-rounder, Mr. Lal also scored over 400 ODI runs from 67 ODIs, from which he scalped 73 useful wickets. The earnest doer for India, the man who always dedicated himself tirelessly to a team that at its peak had amazing talents in Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar among others has been known for his simplicity but also for his dutiful disposition.
Perhaps these are the values that the BCCI will be keen to make the most of as the honorable custodians of Indian cricket in a cricket-crazed nation have included Mr. Madan Lal among new Names in BCCI’s Advisory Committee.
But that’s not all. Do you know of the others? So who are the new Names In BCCI’s Advisory Committee? In an encouraging piece of news, versatile talents such as RP Singh- former fast bowler for India (famously under the Dravid-led era that included the likes of Sehwag, Gambhir, Harbhajan, and Zaheer) and Sulakshna Naik- experienced former women’s cricketer- have also been included in the vital list.
Sulakshna Naik, 41, based in Mumbai, has represented the country in 2 Tests, 31 T20 internationals and 46 women’s one- day internationals.
Now it’s important to note why the new names in BCCI’s advisory committee have been picked. To that end, it’s important to note that the key task of the newly picked will be to pick the replacements of the outgoing selectors in Gagan Khoda and MSK Prasad.
