IPL 2017 Match 10, MI vs SRH: Defending Champions win by 4 wickets, defying all odds.
IPL 2017 is turning out to be one hell of a tournament as we are a just week into the 10th edition of Indian Premier League and there is only one team that remains unbeaten. Much to our surprise, it’s Kings XI Punjab.
The other team that was unbeaten until yesterday was the defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, Mumbai Indians gave a thoroughly powerful performance at home and registered an impressive win against SRH.
Shikhar Dhawan (48) and David Warner (49) gave a good start to the innings but after that only Ben Cutting (20) was able to score in double digits and the visitors ended up giving a target of 159 to the Rohit Sharma-led team. Harbhajan Singh (4-23-2) and Jasprit Bumrah (4-24-3) were the most dominating bowlers, who provided some important breakthroughs to Mumbai Indians.
Parthiv Patel (39), Nitish Rana (45), and Krunal Pandya (37), while chasing the target for MI, stimulated the innings for a comfortable win by 4 wickets and eight balls still to spare.
However, except the result, a lot happened during IPL 2017’s Match 10 that resulted in leaving the fans irritated. ‘Goof-Ups’, the term that has been a synonym to T20 since the format came into existence but this time, it were the Umpires who came under the radar.
First, something weird happened in the 6th and 7th over. On the last ball of the 6 over, David Warner tricked a well-timed boundary, much to MI fans dismay but what made matters, even more, worse was, on the first delivery of the next over, the same batsman was allowed at the striker’s end. For many of us, this may be the first and the biggest goof-ups we have seen in the history of Cricket, which also put a question mark over the presence on-field umpires.

And then came a lifeline that was given to Shikhar Dhawan. Fans must have clinched their hair when Krunal Pandya’s exceptional attempt to catch Dhawan’s shot was dismissed as a soft call.
Here is what happened
See, the kookaburra didn’t seem to touch the ground from any angle but Third Umpire still gave it a not-out, again displeasing the crowd.
And then something really hilarious happened. On the last 11 deliveries, Mumbai Indians needed just three more runs to win the match and Harbhajan Singh was at the striker’s end. He easily chipped the ball through a gap for a quick single. However, Hardik Pandya forced the ‘old-man’ to convert it into a double, which left the whole dressing room, including Sachin Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma, laughing their guts out.

In the end, Mumbai Indians continued their dominance at home defeating the unbeaten Champions Sunrisers Hyderabad, but now, they will face even more odds when they travel to Bangalore to face RCB, the team which will welcome Virat Kohli for the first time in IPL 2017.
