ICC ODI Rankings has been released after the recently concluded ICC Champions Trophy 2017, in which Pakistan shocked the world and claimed its first ever Champions Trophy title, defeating the defending champions India by a huge margin of 180 runs at The Oval, London, on Sunday.
Pakistan has jumped to the sixth position in the ICC ODI Rankings after winning the tournament during which they defeated three of the four top-ranked ODI teams namely South Africa, India, and England. Pakistan entered the tournament as the lowest-ranked side after beating West Indies at the nick of time.
Interestingly, ICC Champions Trophy 2017 gave us some of the biggest upsets in modern day cricket and Pakistan defeating the favorites in semifinals and demolishing the defending champions in the final were two of such moments.
As for India, the team still sits at the No. 3 spot in the ICC ODI Rankings with one point behind the No. 2 team Australia and South Africa still being the best among the others.
Here are the updates ICC ODI Rankings
With the ICC ODI Rankings being released after the Champions Trophy, each and every team will be looking forward to qualifying for the ICC World Cup 2019 and West Indies, again, looks in deep danger after Pakistan’s rise to the 6th position.
The top eight teams in ICC ODI Rankings will get a direct qualification for the World Cup and West Indies were at the 9th position with just 77 points, 16 points behind No.8th team Sri Lanka, might end up losing a berth in another ICC Tournament. If West Indies stays at the 9th position till the 30th September deadline, the Jason Holder-led team will have to play the 2018 World Cup qualifier to enter for the ten-team event in England.
India, on the other hand, had ICC Champions Trophy 2017 been an undefeated tournament for them, could have climbed the ICC ODI Rankings tally for the top spot.
