There is some beauty, some real beauty, in fact, in doing things for others. And when you offer an act of kindness to those you have absolutely nothing to do or no relations whatsoever, then things get even more beautiful- don’t they?
Unless it was to be forgotten that we are largely a part of such a world where to see someone offer kindness to another is akin to seeing bright sunshine amid massive rains.
The lives of refugees and those that have left everything behind, living purely on hope for a better life ahead- wherever that might be- cannot even be imagined. It’s one thing to temporarily be away from one’s residence. It’s something quite other to be aware, every passing second, that one may simply never head back toward one’s roots- to where one belongs.
Ever since the start of 2015- the world has seen more spilling and displacement of people from the Middle East to other geographies than ever in the past. Actually considered to be the worst of its kind scenario for refugees, never has the world since the second world war evidenced such massive transition of people from a part to another.
And there are refugees knocking on the doorsteps of a United States controlled, (rather manned) by Donald Trump himself, ever against the idea of offering even a temporary-based solution to the immensity of problems faced by refugees, let alone ever consider a long-term solution.
Not that those were any refugees from the Middle East. America, often has to make decisions regarding the immediate fate of many lives that hail from the likes of Latin American countries- such as El Salvador, Guatemala and, Brazil.
So when a kind American gentleman- Armando Colunga- saw some news regarding the not so rosy future of the many refugees who descend at his United States, in hope for a better life and in search of some stability that they never are able to find back their home, he was pinched by the urgency of the occasion. He wanted to contribute. He was different from what were essentially, other onlookers.
What’s most impressive is that unlike other people who often do not have time to help and purely resort to financial means of help, a tow truck driver Armando Colunga initiated a kind gesture, rather differently.
As of the last week in June 2018, over 50 people had been illegally smuggled inside the great Texas state, that too on a tractor-trailer during the dark night hours unbeknownst to the people. This is when Armando Colunga saw the seething scenes, apparently dour at seeing the condition of those who had no place to call their home and without a roof over their head.
Seeing a pizza-outlet called Little Ceasars nearby, Armando Colunga dived in to help a desolate lot of refugees. He had seen previously that how they weren’t offered even a tiny grain of food and had just been given some water. Spending around $50 on pizzas on a group of refugees he didn’t even know, nor have any connections to, he acquired some food for the needy.
What was particularly impressive about this very kind deed was that while the investigators were doing their job, nearly rounding the group of illegally-brought refugees for a regular round of questioning, the kind-hearted man jumped into the picture with help. He didn’t care whether he would be stopped or what might have happened. His pizzas were there to feed a lot that seemed perturbed and unsure about what might happen to them.
Speaking to the revered CNN, the man shared, “My main motivation was, ‘Who knows how long they’ve been in there.” As it is, the picture was grim enough to move even the most incorrigible person to address the hapless. Being carried, rather towed, as in this occasion and keeping away from food and water is never any impressive or positive picture.
While to be moving about having left everything behind and then to be forced to face the heat of life, it didn’t help that the refugees had to contend with the fierce Texas heat.
The saddest part, then, became known, shortly afterwards the man bought pizzas to the hungry lot. It was reported that the Homeland Security Investigations agents arrested the illegal immigrants who had made their way into Texas. The driver, who has not been identified, was also arrested and expected to be charged with human smuggling. With their future unknown and in the hands of the law enforcement authorities, the man must be credited for bringing the tarnished lot their only moment of reprieve.
And truth be told, America cannot be picked or sidelined for its tough stand on the refugees either. Every country has its own share of rules. While comparing it to a Europe, that has accepted so many of refugees with open arms may tell us about what could be corrected, one cannot expect the current policy on immigrants and the refugees to change any time in the imminent future.
Since the Congress passed the refugee act, already 3 million refugees from the wider world have settled in the USA.
