Hair coloring may appear as a fashion of modern ages, however, it has been a part of the society since 1500 BC. It is believed that Egyptians used henna to dye their white hairs. Later people found that they can create black dye with plants extracts and then came William Henry, who was a chemist in 1800s. He was trying to find a cure for malaria when he accidentally created the first synthesized dye in 1863. Since then the future of hair dye changed forever.
In 1900s, L’Oreal created the first commercial hair colour and since then it’s ruling the hair colouring world. Earlier it was limited to celebrities and people who had deep pockets but in the recent 20 years, it became available to everyone. You can literally buy a hair colour of your choice @50 Rs and lesser. It is believed that approximately, over 70% people colour their hair once in a lifetime.
That is some progress, isn’t it? It makes you stand out from others. Hair coloring basically has become a strong fashion statement. We all are guilty of thinking about coloring our hair at least once. However, the fear of damaging our hair often stops us from doing it.
There is a long list of rumours and myths about hair colouring that keep cropping up. We end up confused and leave that thought alone until it comes back and hits us again.
Let’s find out the truth about these myths and shun them once and for all so that you can grant yourself the longing wish of hair colouring!
1. Colored Hair Damage Hair For Permanently!
A little damage- yes, but an irreversible damage- no. Hair colour opens up your cuticle and allows the colour to deposit that can cause dryness and mild hair loss. However, if you take proper care it can be reversed. Opt for regular oil massages, hair spas and damage repairing treatments. You can even opt for home remedies.
2. Oiling Can Fade Away The Color.
It’s a big fat lie. Oiling restores the damaged hair but does not fade the colour. In fact, it adds sheen to your hair. Your hair will look shiny and healthy upon oiling. Just make sure you are not oiling your hair until 2 weeks after you first colour your hair.
3. You Can Apply Hair Colour Without Hair Wash.
Well, you can. In fact, it’s best if you can go for hair colour after 24 hours of hand-wash for the natural oils on your scalp prevent the damage. However, make sure they are not greasy or oiled-up or else you will have a patchy hair colour which only appears tacky. The oil deposit in your hair will not let the colour to penetrate the cuticles. Hence, it won’t come out as good as it naturally should.
4. You Have To Get Your Hair Colored By A Professional.
If you are willing to spend money, you can get your hair colored by a professional. However, this isn’t an absolute must. The hair colouring packs come with instructions, you can simply follow them and colour your hair at home.
5. You Can Shampoo Right After Hair Coloring.
Just wash them off once after applying color and then leave your hair untouched for at least 48 hours. It will make that colour last longer and you won’t even have to go for touch-ups.
Feeling better? Go on, be blond or colour them red or what you may. Pick the best one of your choice. If you areĀ in a mood for something vibrant thenĀ paint them in rainbow colours. After all, there are plenty of hair colour trends to choose from.
