Hurricane Matthew is an ongoing destructive cyclone over the Atlantic Ocean. It is said to be a category 5 cyclone which is very deadly for all the people who will have to and have already suffered from it.
Four days ago, Hurricane Matthew hit Haiti and it is said to be the worst hurricane in the past 50 years. The initial death toll was of five people, but the recent reports indicated that the number is more than 320 (as per now). Hurricane Matthew is the worst natural disaster after the 2010 earthquake in Haiti.
Due to this, the current Presidential Elections in Haiti have also been postponed to October 9. A lot of people have lost their family members, homes and crops in the hurricane. Plus, no connection has been yet made with the southern part of the country because of the collapsed phone lines and bridges, which have resulted in no physical or electronic connection.
After Haiti, the deadly storm hit Cuba and the Bahamas which resulted in the emergency evacuation of more than 1 million people living near the coast for their safety. The government had appointed various emergency personnel, doctors and provided emergency supplies to the rescue shelters.
Now Hurricane Matthew is all set to hit Florida and after that Georgia and also some parts of South Carolina. This led to the declaration of emergency in the states by President Barack Obama, he has asked people to help those in need and save their lives. Almost 12 million people are under hurricane warnings in the US due to this deadly storm. Even though this hurricane is considered to be a category 4 cyclone in Florida, it has packed winds of 215 kph which would be having a disastrous impact on the people as well as the states.
The Governor of Florida has stated that the storm is definitely a threat to people’s lives, therefore they should evacuate on an immediate basis. 3.1 Million people have been under necessary and voluntary evacuation from the states. Various gas stations and groceries stores in Florida are out of food supplies and fuel as well.
The last storm with such a high alert requirements was Hurricane Wilma in 2005 with winds at 177 kph.
