1. Trinamool Congress Released The Second List of Candidates For Punjab Polls!
All India Trinamool Congress released its party’s second list of 10 candidates four assembly polls in Punjab which are due in February. The former Congress MP and party’s Punjab unit head MP Jagmeet Singh Brar stated that a third list will be released soon. He also said that TMC aims to campaign on issues like “rise” of crime and drug menace, agrarian crisis, Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) water dispute, and the Modi government’s “dictatorial” demonetisation.
2. Supreme Court Refuses To Lift NGT Ban On Manjha!
Today, the Supreme Court refused the interim ban by National Green Tribunal (NGT) on the glass-coated thread, manja and said that the ban will continue. On 14 December 2016, green tribunal imposed the ban on the thread used for flying kites stating that it is life threatening to humans, animals and birds. A bench of Justices M B Lokur and P C Panth said that petitioners can move NGT for appropriate relief.
3. Sports Ministry Lifted The Suspension ON IOA.
On Friday, the Sports Ministry lifted the suspension with immediate effect on the Indian Olympic Association after it removed the corruption-tainted duo of Suresh Kalmadi and Abhay Singh Chautala as life presidents. The ministry stated that keeping in view the larger interest of promotion and development of sports in the country, Ministry of Youth Affairs and sports and the Minister of State (Independent Charge) has revoked the suspension of deemed recognition of Indian Olympic Association that was imposed on 30th December 2016.
4. Sania Mirza – Barbora Strycova Lost The Final Match Of Apia International.
The doubles duo, Sania Mirza and Czech Republic’s Barbora Strycova lost the match to Timea Babos of Hungary and Russia’s Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the final of the Apia International tennis tournament. The pair lost 4-6 4-6 to their opponents in a match of an hour and 12 minutes.
5. After 3 Days Hikes, Sensex Falls!
BSE’s Benchmark Sensex broke its three days winning spree and closed at 27,238.06 with a loss of 9.10 points at the end of Friday trade. NSE’s Nifty too saw a downfall of 6.85 points and closed on a lower note at 8,400.35. Indian Rupee didn’t see a hike as it also lost 8 paise and reached 68.16 against the U.S. Dollar.
