Our holy river Ganga, which has been an important part of survival for almost 40% of our country is also one of the most polluted rivers in the country that needs our immediate attention. To this, a 10-year-old boy from Chennai, G Shashank contributed Rs 1000, as his efforts, for the cleaning of Ganga. He studies in class 5 of DAV school in Chennai.
The contributed sum by Shashank was the amount he won in a school Sanskrit-based competition. Along with the money, he also wrote a letter to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in which he gives the details about the competition that he has won as well as invited him to Chennai, to visit his house. In his letter, he also attributed Ganga as the ‘holy river of the country’ and that we should maintain it.

This gesture of the 10-year-old got a response from the under secretary, PK Balli who acknowledged his contribution in addition to PM’s appreciation for his ‘thoughtful gesture’. Modi government itself is working toward the cleaning of Ganga through – Namami Gange Project to which Rs 20,000 crore have been allotted, till now.
