The Central Government has decided to give an income hike to the President of the country which is more than 200%. The decision has been made after the realisation of how a Cabinet Secretary, currently gets paid more than the President of the country, as per the 7th pay commission changes. Along with the President, the Vice-President and the Governor are also going to get a raise.
The President’s raise would be from the current draw salary of Rs 1.5 Lakh per month to Rs 5 Lakh per month. Similarly, the Vice-President’s raise would be from Rs 1.10 Lakh per month to Rs 3.5 Lakh per month.
The raise does need a Parliamentary approval which would take place in the upcoming winter session and the raised salary would be applicable from January 2016. However, this is going to be a difficult decision for Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he would be expected to also give a green signal to the pending raise for the lawmakers of the country. In August, 250 lawmaker asked for a raise by signing a petition which is not yet approved by the government, PM Modi due to the ongoing austerity measures in the country. The lawmaker’s salary hike would result in the double of the current salary drawn.
The last raise in President’s salary was made in the year 2008, from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1.5 Lakh. According to the new raise, the President’s retirement income would be of Rs 1.5 Lakh per month. As well as, the spouse of the President would get a secretarial assistance of Rs 30,000 p.m.
