RBI released the images of the new Rs 2000 notes and the rumors of the note having a GPS nano-chip were doing the rounds on Social Media (especially Whatsapp) even before its launch. The Nano GPS Chip (NGC) was rumored of being able to track all the new Rs 2000 notes from anywhere in the world. (it sounds pretty amazing though)
Indian Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley dismissed the rumors by saying that he did not know from where the news came and if it was true, he would have been the first one to know.
Rumor has it that it is the Government’s Policy to not disclose this new feature, so that in future, all the illegal transactions can be uncovered.
This is the message that was circulating on Whatsapp regarding all the Rs 2000 currency notes having a GPS chip:
Here is the official RBI Tweet stating all the actual features of new currency notes.

RBI’s description of the new currency notes does not state anything in this regard and when the officials were contacted, they dismissed the rumor regarding the Nano Chip.
The Rs 2000 notes do have a photo of Mangalyaan on the back and also have a special feature for visually disabled people.
Twitterati also had some hilarious ideas for Rs 2000 notes:
They should sell a premium version of the 2000 rupee note, that has GPS, for 2500 rupees.

Apart from Nano GPS Chip, the Rs 2000 Notes will also have Jio Sim with 4G connection. It will call RBI and inform where it is stocked
