On Sunday, Governor invited Mehbooba to form and lead the PDP-BJP coalition government in the state. On 8th January, a day after the chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed passed away in India’s capital New Delhi. Jammu and Kashmir was put under the Governor’s Rule. On March 26, the BJP and PDP had staked a claim for government formation and Mehbooba was elected as the party leader of Peoples Democratic Party after two days.
Mehbooba Mufti had earlier met NN Vohra and she staked her claim to form the government with the collaboration of 25 MLAs of the BJP. The Peoples Democratic Party has 27 MLAs in the 87-member state assembly. Most of the political observers anticipate Mehbooba Mufti to chart out a new course of governance, a different one from her father Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s legacy.
