Prime Minister Narendra Modi expanded Union cabinet today as 19 leaders took the oath as new ministers. After an exhaustive vetting and selection process, Modi added 19 new faces to his Cabinet.
The council of ministers has been expanded for the second time since Narendra Modi’s government came to power. Modi said that this expansion will reflect “budget focus and priorities”. The selection of these ministers was based on the experience at both Centre and states, professional expertise and the “Youth Factor.”
The leaders who took oath as new ministers are Vijay Goel, Ramdas Athawale, Rajen Gohain, Faggan Singh Kulaste, SS Ahluwalia, Ramesh Chandappa Jigajinagi,Anil Madhav Dave, Parshottam Rupala, MJ Akbar, Arjun Ram Meghwal, Mansukhbhai Mandavia, Anupriya Patel CR Chaudhary, PP Chaudhary, Subhash Ram Bhamre, Jasvantsinh Bhabhor, Mahendra Nath Pandey, Ajay Tamta and Krishna Raj.
Apart from these new faces, Prakash Javadekar, the incumbent Union Minister of State for Environment, Forests and Climate Change also took the oath as he was elevated to the Cabinet rank. Javadekar was the only union minister who was elevated.
Among these 19 ministers, three MPs from Gujarat, three from Uttar Pradesh and three from Madhya Pradesh sworn in where four MPs from Rajasthan took the oath.
The newly included ministers had already met BJP leader Amit Shah on Monday.
