A JNU student was found dead in his hostel on Tuesday evening, who has been missing from the campus since the last three days. This is the second such news from the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University, as another student, Najeeb Ahmed has also been missing from the past eleven days.
The P.hD student, Jatung Raja Philemon was found dead in the Brahmaputra Hostel Room No. 171, after some students encountered a foul smell and called the guards to break open the room.
As per one of the students who broke into the room, Raja’s body was found lying on the ground. His room was locked since the last two days and his phone kept ringing but never got answered which was the reason of suspicion
Ishwar Singh, The Deputy Commissioner of Police said that no suicide note has been recovered from J.R Philemon’s room and the cause of his death could be an overdose of alcohol as he had been a heavy drinker. The room was locked from inside, so, no foul play is suspected. No external injuries or marks were found on his body.
The body has been sent to AIIMS for postmortem and police have recorded the statements of all the witnesses for further investigation.
JNU has already witnessing a huge protest by the student council since 15 October over the mysterious disappearance of Najeeb Ahmed, after he was roughly beaten up the previous night by ABVP members.
A reward of Rs 100,000 has been announced by the Police for giving any information relating to Najeeb Ahmed.
