1. IT Department Seized Rs 30 Lakhs in New Notes and 5 Kg Gold From TN Chief Secretary Residence
Income Tax Department officials raided Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary, Rama Mohan Rao’s residence on Wednesday and it came to an end on Thursday morning. A total of Rs 30 lakhs in new notes and 5 Kg gold were found from his house and offices. IT Department’s representatives said that the raid was conducted due to suspicion of Rama Mohan Rao’s links with J. Shekhar Reddy, Srinivasulu and Prem from whom the department recently seized 177 Kg gold and Rs 130 crore cash including Rs 34 crore in new currency.
2. Thane Police Seized 9 Kg Radioactive Uranium
Around 9 kg radioactive depleted Uranium was seized by Thane Police from 2 people on Wednesday. Uranium is a banned material and according to investigators, it was brought from abroad for selling to some unknown parties in the city. Anti-Chain Snatching squad got a tip off and nabbed these two smugglers on the Ghodbunder Road connecting Mumbai and Thane. Since Uranium is banned from open market, its actual value can’t be interpreted but according to media reports, it may be worth Rs 3 crore.
3. DRDO’s Nirbhay Fails its Fourth Test
Nirbhay subsonic cruise missile which is also nuclear capable, failed in its fourth test on Wednesday Evening. Nirbhay was launched from Integrated Test Range in Chandipur, Odisha but deviated from its path minutes later. Officials were forced to destroy it mid air and they marked this test as a ‘utter failure’ adding that a hardware element failure may have caused Nirbhay to deviate from its path.
4. Nokia Sues Apple For Infringing 32 Patents.
Nokia Corp on Wednesday filed 32 lawsuits against Apple Inc for violating patents like display, software, antenna, user interface, chipsets and video coding. According to Nokia officials, Apple has been using technologies invented by Nokia Corp and when the latter asked for licensing the patent rights, the company refused. However, Apple Inc has rubbished the claims and said that the company was ready to pay a fair price but Nokia refused to accept it and now all they want is to extract money from Apple using patent troll tactics.
5. Indian Rupee Gains 7 Paise Against US Dollar
Indian Rupee rose to 67.84 against US Dollar after a growth of 7 paise due to increased selling of American currency by banks and exporters. Meanwhile, BSE’s Benchmark Sensex also jumped to 26,170.45 after a 70.93 point growth during the early trade of Thursday.
