1. Income Tax department raids Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary’s Chennai Home in Anna Nagar.
On Wednesday, Income Tax department raided Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary P Ramamohan Rao’s Chennai home as well as, his office at the Secretariat. The officials from I-T department have also conducted raids at Rao’s relatives’ home. Ramamohan is said to have close relations with Shekhar Reddy, from whom the Income Tax department had seized 100 kilogrammes of gold and almost Rs 90 crore in cash.
2. Oil and gas drilling in Atlantic and Arctic territorial waters have been banned by US and Canada.
United States President, Barack Obama and Canada’s Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau have banned oil and gas drilling in Atlantic and Arctic territorial waters. This action has been taken to maintain sustainable and strong Arctic ecosystem. It is said that President-elect Donald Trump might lift the ban, for which he has to contest the move in court.
3. Rs 102 crore has been received by National political parties in the form of donations above Rs 20,000.
National political parties have received Rs 102 crores in 2015-16 as a donation, above the earlier limit of Rs 20,000, whose sources have to be disclosed. Out of this, BJP has received Rs 79.85 crore from 613 donation sources and Congress has received Rs 20.42 crore from 918 donation sources.
4. Indian would not be able to visit Hong Kong with Visa on arrival facility anymore.
Hong Kong has withdrawn visa-free facility for Indian travellers from 23 January 2017. Instead of visa-on-arrival, they have implemented pre-arrival registration process which is valid for six months during which the applicant can visit Hong Kong multiple numbers of times. Almost 5,61,625 Indians have visited Hong Kong in 2015.
5. 17-year-old girl found shot dead in a car in Najafgarh, Delhi.
A 17-year-old was found shot dead in a car in Najafgarh area of Delhi. The girl was in the car with her friend and the guy (who shot her), who fled from the car after the gunshot. The accused and his family are absconding from their residence.
