Indians are not bothered about urinating in public to keep their surroundings clean but this latest directive from central government will make people think twice before Littering or Urinating in Public. Central Government will make you pay a jaw-dropping fine if you caught Littering,Urinating or open defecation.
People indulging in littering and public urination could be fined Rs 200 and throwing garbage in public can cost you a fine of Rs 100, reports Economic Times.
The minimum fine will start from Rs 200 and it could go up to Rs 5000 depending on the offence.
Phew!! That’s some serious money and we are sure people do not want to waste it on pee and shit.
This directive has asked all the states to replicate a Law implemented in Rajasthan. According to this law if a person found urinating in public can be fined from Rs 200 and public littering will cost you a fine of Rs 2000.
To apply these new penalties, the ministry of Urban Development has written to the state government to enforce the penalties as soon as possible.
They also have suggested states to apply these penalties in a phased manner.
Here is the schedule:
- One ward of the city by 30th April
- In all wards of at least 10-15 cities by December 2016.
- In all cities by September 2018.
Many people disagree with the directive and they think it is unfair to charge such huge fine when there are not enough facilities of Public Sanitation. The central Government has ordered states to provide an adequate number of public toilets. Also, ensure the door-to-door garbage collection facility and adequate dustbins at all the public places where these fines will be applied.
The state will have a tough time implementing these norms and it is not clear how they will do it but the big question is – will Indian people stop urinating in public in the fear of losing their money?
