1. Agni V Test Launch Successful.
Defence Research and Development Organisation successfully conducted the fourth test of Agni V nuclear capable missile from Wheeler Island, near the Odisha Coast on Monday. Agni V can carry nuclear warheads weighing 1.5 tonnes and has a range of more than 5000 kms. The nuclear warhead is capable of withstanding 3000 degrees celsius of temperature while re-entering the atmosphere.
2. Indian Cricket Team’s Fitness Trainer Resigned!
Shankar Basu, the fitness trainer of Indian Cricket Team has handed his resignation to the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India). Basu has given his resignation after the fifth Test between India and England but, the BCCI officials are yet to accept it. According to the sources, a few players were disgruntled with Basu’s intense training programme and if the BCCI does accept his resignation, they could turn back to former trainer Sudarshan.
3. 814 Kg Marijuana Seized in Hyderabad.
On Monday, DRI (Directorate of Revenue Intelligence) seized 814 kg marijuana in Hyderabad. The marijuana was brought from Andhra-Odisha border for New Year celebrations in Mumbai and Hyderabad by inter-state peddlers. 270 packets of high-quality marijuana from a truck, 20 packets from Tavera and 60 packets from one of the rooms in the farmhouse were seized. The marijuana worth Rs 81.44 lakh was procured from Andhra-Odisha border to supply to peddlers in Mumbai and Hyderabad.
4. Actor-turned-politician Mithun Chakraborty resigns as Trinamool Rajya Sabha MP.
Mithun Chakraborty has resigned as Rajya Sabha MP due to health issues. The actor-turned-politician represented the Trinamool Congress in the upper House of Parliament and was elected to the Rajya Sabha in April 2014. He had attended Parliament for three days only and also did not participate in any debate or ask questions in the House.
5. Kerala Govt Stated That Women Activists Will Be Barred Inside Sabarimala Temple.
On this day of the year, the Kerala government said that Bhumata Brigade chief Trupti Desai will not be allowed in the Lord Ayyappa temple. Desai plans to lead 100 odd women to the famous hill shrine in Sabarimala. The entry of women between 10-50 years of age is restricted in the temple. The Devaswom Minister Kadakampally Surendran stated that the traditions and rules of Travancore Devaswom Board (The administrative authority of temple) are applicable to everyone. He added that until Supreme Court takes a decision, there will be no change in the tradition and customs. Trupti Desai had earlier campaigned for the entry of women at the Haji Ali dargah, Shani Shingnapur, and Trimbakeshwar Shiva temple. She states that she would visit the Lord Ayyappa temple next month with 100 odd activists and she hasn’t changed her plans.
6. University in Hyderabad Gave An Honorary Degree To Shah Rukh Khan.
The romance king of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan has yet again increased the list of his achievements as he received an honorary doctorate from Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) at their sixth convocation, in Hyderabad on Monday. The President, Pranab Mukherjee conferred him with the degree. King Khan aka Badshah Of Bollywood said that “I am very happy. My mother would have been very happy because I am getting this honour in Hyderabad, her birthplace,”.
7. Indian Rupee Up by 8 paise after Monday’s Trade.
Continuing the rise for the second session, Indian Rupee came to 67.74 after an 8 paise growth against US Dollar by the end of Monday’s trade, regressive selling of the green currency by banks and exporters being the reason. In the last two days, Rupee has gained 25 paise against the US dollar. However, NSE’s Nifty recorded a 7 month low and came to 7,908 points while BSE’s Sensex closed at 25,807.10 points after Monday’s trade.
