1. 3 Militants Gunned Down in Jammu & Kashmir.
During an encounter between Indian Armed Forces and Hizbul Mujahideen militants at Pahalgam area of Jammu & Kashmir on Monday, Indian troops gunned down three militants who had taken refuge in a residential building at Awoora village. Search Operation was launched on Sunday evening after the Army received intelligence report about these militants. Three AK-47 rifles were also recovered from the slain militants.
2. At Least 16 People Dead in Turkish Airlines Plane Crash.
A Turkish Airlines cargo plane crashed in one of the residential areas in Kyrgyzstan on Monday, killing at least 16 people. The Boeing 747 aircraft had taken off from Hong Kong and was trying to land at Manas airport in Bishkek. Rescue teams reported that the Pilot was killed after the crash and most of the victims were local residing around the accident site.
3. PM Announces Rs 2 Lakh Compensation for Gangasagar Stampede Victims.
PM Narendra Modi announced a compensation of Rs 2 Lakh to the families of Gangasagar Stampede Victims who lost their lives while trying to board a vessel to leave the island. Rs 50,000 compensation was also announced to the families of injured people. The six killed were elderly women who got ill during the rush and the commotion took place because the vessel was the last one to leave the island for the next eight hours, Sundarbans Development Minister Manturam Pakhira said.
4. Man Arrested For Molesting School Girls in Delhi.
Delhi Police on Saturday arrested a man named Sunil Rastogi after several complaints were registered against him for sexually assaulting minor school girls in Delhi’s New Ashok Nagar area, Ghaziabad and Uttarakhand’s Rudrapur area. The Uttar Pradesh resident confessed that whenever he found any minor girl going home after school, he used to mislead her and take her to an isolated place. Rastogi is married with five children out of which three are daughters and they are being counselled to find out if their own father had tried to sexually assault them as well.
5. Barkha Dutt Quits NDTV.
Barkha Dutt, a renowned journalist and editor announced that she will be leaving NDTV and would focus on building her own independent projects. NDTV officials said in a statement that “Barkha has requested that she would like to explore some new opportunities, pursue other interests and work on her own ventures.” Dutt joined the channel “straight out of college” in 1995 and is well known for her reporting during the Kargil War in 1999. The Padma Shri holder has been a consulting editor since February 2015 after she stepped down as the Group Editor of NDTV.
6. Kedar Jadhav and Virat Kohli Led India to a Stunning Victory Against England.
Kedar Jadhav (120 off 76) and Virat Kohli (122 off 105) led India to a 1-0 lead against England in the 1st match of the ongoing three ODI series at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune. England set a humongous target of 351 runs after losing the toss and Virat Kohli led Indian team successfully chased down the target with 3 wickets and 11 balls to spare.
7. Sensex Lost 55 Points and Indian Rupee softens by 10 Paise.
BSE Benchmark Sensex lost 54.57 points and traded at 27,183.49 during the the early trade of Monday due to capital outflows by foreign funds and continuous selling by retail investors amid weak global cues. NSE’s Nifty also shed 21.15 points and came below the 8400 mark as the 50 company index was traded at 8,379.20 points. In a similar fashion, Indian Rupee lost 10 paise and came to 68.26 against US Dollar due to increased demand of the green currency by importers and banks.
