Sanjay Leela Bhansali is renowned for his larger-than-life picturizations and being true to his movies. However, everything becomes 100 times better when Bhansali gets together with Deepika Padukone for a dance number.
We have seen it in Ramleela’s “Nagada”, and then again in Bajirao Mastani’s “Deewani Mastani”, and the statement is standing true to its name again in Ghoomar song from Padmavati. Deepika excelled and looked like a dream in all the prior sequences, and the same happened again in the Ghoomar song.
From the first frame itself, the audience would be transported to the prepossessing world of Padmavati, a world created and crafted by the great Bhansali, and you’ll be left spell bounded. However, this time, Bhansali has restricted himself, and all in a good way. One can see the actual Rajputana culture in the song, and nothing Bollywood-esque about it, which is a great thing for any period-drama.
As reported by Indian Express, Deepika Padukone said, “The Ghoomar Song has been one of the most difficult song sequences that Sanjay Sir and I have shot for. His vision can be seen in the grandiose of the set and the immense hard work we’ve all put into making it. I had started preparing for this film and character for several months before we actually started filming. But it was for The Ghoomar Song that I walked onto the set as ‘Padmavati’ for the very first time. The shooting of Padmavati began with The Ghoomar Song and I will never forget that day. I remember approaching my mark for the first shot and suddenly I felt a chill run through my body. It was almost as if Padmavati‘s soul had entered my body. That feeling still lingers and will continue for years to come”. These words by Deepika aptly explains how big of an impact the song and the entire movie left on her.

With every twirl that Deepika took in the Ghoomar Song, one can see the hard work and persistence in her. The entire song seems nothing short of a poetic wonder that can bewitch you, every time.
Sung by Shreya Ghoshal and Swaroop Khan, the Ghoomar Song brings back the authenticity of folk culture in Bollywood. The lyrics of the song are penned by A M Turaz while the music has been given by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The Ghoomar song is a breath of fresh air, all because of the choreography which has done by Kruti Mahesh Midya. The cast underwent an actual Ghoomar training which was given by Jyothi D Tommaar.
Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Padmavati is slated to release on 1st December 2017.
