Noted writer, playwright and columnist, Tarak Mehta passed away today at the age of 87 after suffering from a prolonged illness.
His column Duniya Ne Undha Chasma in the Gujarati language was the inspiration behind the hugely popular television daily, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah. Mehta was not well from past 3-4 months and finally rested in peace this morning. The columnist was also a profound figure in Gujarati theatre and translated and adapted various comedies for Gujarati audience.

Tarak Mehta’s demise is sad. His writing was much different than the show he is associated with. Light, enjoyable yet probing humor.
