Gurinder Chadha’s ‘Viceroy’s House’ trailer is out and it brings backs the history that our country went through, 69 years ago. The trailer seems to offer a rather different (Britishers) side of India’s Independence story. It counts the final days of British Raj in the country and transition of a foreign colony to a self-governed country. For these final days Lord Mountbatten, great-grandson of Queen Victoria, was given the position of the last Viceroy of India and was charged with handling India back to its people.
Apart from being a movie about Independent India, ‘Viceroy’s House’ also revolves around the lives of some of the most important people at that time like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and Muhammad Ali Jinnah. At the same time, it also features the lives of ordinary people of the country that got affected by the partition, that followed the British rule exit. Viceroy’s House also features two love stories, of Louis Mountbatten and Edwina Mountbatten, and of a Hindu servant and his engaged Muslim lover. These love stories go through a lot in between the basaltic divide of India and Pakistan.
