Bollywood veteran actress Shammi passed away at 89 on Tuesday. The news was shared by Amitabh Bachchan on his Twitter along with her picture; he was deeply saddened by the news. Bachchan wrote, “Shammi Aunty .. prolific actress, years of contribution to the Industry, dear family friend .. passes away ..!! A long suffered illness, age ..Sad .. slowly slowly they all go away..”

Shammi was profoundly known and addressed as Shammi Aunty among the industry which she has been a part of, for almost 6 decades. She did some memorable movies and television shows in her career and never failed to bring a smile on her audience’s faces.
Born Nargis Rabadi in 1929, Shammi began her career in Bollywood in 1949 starring in Ustad Pedro. She was also a part of various other Bollywood movies like Jab Jab Phool Khile (1965), Ittefaq (1969), The Burning Train (1980), Arth(1982), Hum (1991), Khuda Gawah (1992), Coolie No. 1 (1995) and Hum Saath Saath Hain (1999).
Her last Bollywood project was Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi, where she shared the screen with Farah Khan and Boman Irani.
Along with these noteworthy movies, she was also a part of television shows like Dekh Bhai Dekh, Zabaan Sambhal Ke, Shriman Shrimati, Kabhi Yeh Kabhi Woh and Filmi Chakkar.
