Om Puri, veteran and an extremely talented actor from Indian Cinema lost his life to a massive heart attack at his Mumbai residence on 6th January 2017. Om Puri had been in the industry for the longest time and gave some of the most impeccable performances in his journey. His story is more than just an ordinary man trying to make his path in Indian cinema, he performed in television, theatre and even on cinema halls and won millions of hearts with his skills and presence.
Puri’s strong voice found its way to everyone’s heart. He can definitely be considered a director’s dream, he was successful in commercial movies as well as in art movies, and that speaks a lot about him as an actor. He acted in 250 films in a four-decade long career and gave some of the most memorable characters to the audience.
Apart from various awards that the actor won, his favourite was the love that he received for his work. He was a crucial part of some of the cult classics of Indian cinema like “Ardh Satya”, “Chachi 420”, “Hera Pheri” and much more.

1. Ardh Satya

Om Puri played a character of a Policeman.

The film went on to win National Film Award for Best Feature Film.

An Indian crime drama film that dealt with India’s battle against terrorism.

5. Maachis

The film was set in the 1980s in Punjab which saw some of the most massive protests and conflicts at the time.
6. Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro

Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro is a cult classic which was a political satire. Om Puri gave some of the most comical and memorable scenes in the movie.
7. East Is East
Released: 1999
The film is about a mixed-ethnicity household, where a Muslim man is married to a British lady.
8. Maqbool
Released: 2003
Maqbool is known as Vishal Bhardwaj’s masterpiece that had some of the finest actors from the industry. It was an adaptation of Macbeth by Shakespeare.
9. Hera Pheri
Released: 2000
Hera Pheri is one of the most amazing comic films and even though Om Puri didn’t have a huge part in the film, his work is still cherished by the viewers.
Om Puri has left us, however, his work would always be here, for the audience. He would still amaze his new viewers with his impeccable versatility and acting skills.
