Sports biopics are turning out to be money-making machines in the country, which is why more and more people are making them. The newest addition to this latest fad is Diljit Dosanjh and Tapsee Pannu starrer Soorma which is based on the life story of Sandeep Singh, former Indian Hockey player and captain.
Sandeep Singh has been one of the biggest names in the Hockey history. Under his captaincy, India not only won the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in 2009 but even qualified for 2012 Olympics. All this happened after Sandeep Singh came back from his near-death and paralysis experience.
In 2006, Sandeep Singh got paralysed after an accidental gunshot and was on the wheelchair for two years.
And, the Soorma trailer shows exactly that and more about his life and hockey journey. It showed how everything Hockey related started for Singh because of his love for a woman (Tapsee Pannu) who also played hockey for the country.
The Soorma trailer starts on a lighter and happier note, whereas it ends at a more upbeat note, going through all the hardships and problems.
Soorma Trailer: Watch The Video Over Here:
This is Diljit Dosanjh’s third Bollywood release, he made his debut with Udta Punjab, and it sure looks amazing. Dosanjh has been able to get under the skin of his character, at least that’s what looks in the trailer.
Apart from Diljit Dosanjh and Tapsee Pannu, Soorma also has Angad Bedi in a pivotal role. Directed by Shaad Ali, Soorma is all set to release on July 13th.
Talking about the Soorma and its story, Diljit said in an interview, “There was a little embarrassment too, that being an Indian and a sports enthusiast, I didn’t know about the story, wasn’t aware of the person (Sandeep Singh). So there was a guilt that why we weren’t aware. It is just probably a way to rectify it, that let us be the medium to present his story. I hope now no one else says the same after the film.”
