According to the reports, IRCTC PRO Sandip Dutta refused the Hacking news and said that Railway Board is still waiting for the details that haven’t come yet from the Cyber Cell. He said that the board will set up a panel to probe the hacking incident. He clarified that the website is working absolutely fine and it is not being hacked.
It is feared that personal data of around 1 crore customers have been stolen from the server of the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), this fear has raised a question on the safety and security of the Railway board.
Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation is the largest e-commerce website in India. Transactions worth Lakhs are conducted every day on e-ticketing portal of IRCTC. While filling up the reservation forms online customers provide personal information like Pan Card numbers etc.
A railway official stated, “Somebody can create forged documents on the basis of the stolen data.”
An Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation source stated that the data of the customer is a valuable asset and it can be sold to corporations who may use this data for targeting potential customers. IRCTC officials said they have already alerted Maharashtra government about the feared incident.
The state’s additional chief secretary (home), KP Bakshi refused to give any details of the incident but confirmed to TOI that the state police had alerted the railways about the incident.
