The 2017 BMW 5 Series has been launched in India with sportier styling, more luxurious features as well as powerful engine options. It’s been eight months since the all-new BMW 5 Series was launched globally and during that particular time frame, the likes of Audi A6, Volvo S90, Jaguar XF and new benchmark Mercedes-Benz E-Class (LWB) has risen to rule a segment which has a sweet spot for the buyers looking for luxury as well as rubber burning power.
However, the formidable BMW 5 Series is also one of the best sellers for the company, both globally and in India, as it outlines the definition of performance in the executive sedan segment. Having said that, the last generation of BMW 5 Series seemed a tad bit outdated against the competition and fell short of its reputation of a luxurious beast. However, with the 2017 BMW 5 Series, the German car manufacturer is looking to regain the lost grounds and for that, they have infused a little bit of the 7 series coupled with the power of the M version.
The 2017 BMW 5 Series has been launched in one petrol and three diesel variants with the ex-showroom price starting from Rs 49.9 lakh and going all the way up to Rs 61.3 lakh for the M variant.
Petrol
- 530i Sports Line: Rs 49.90 lakh
Diesel
- 520d Sports Line: Rs 49.90 lakh
- 520d Luxury Line: Rs 53.60 lakh
- 530d M Sport: Rs 61.30 lakh
Design
One look at the all-new BMW 5 Series and you will realize that the seems bigger than the previous model and the design language being inspired by the 7 Series makes it even more realistic. However, the BMW 5 series has actually grown 36mm longer, 6mm wider, 2mm taller and even has a 7mm longer wheelbase. Well, it’s nothing like the Longer Wheelbase Mercedes-Benz E-Class, but the new design certainly makes it feel evident.
Other Highlights include the all-LED headlamps that come with high-beam assist, which seamlessly merges with the all new 9-slat kidney grille. The grill features ‘active air flaps’ at the front, for improved aerodynamic efficiency without sacrificing cooling. 18-inch alloy wheels, with distinguished designs depending on the Line are at offer as standard. At the rear, the bold profile is further highlighted with wide taillamps having 3D effect LED elements as well as dual exhaust pipes.
Interior
This is one of the two areas where you can witness most of the changes in the 2017 BMW 5 Series. The car now feels luxurious and high tech. The increased exterior dimensions are evident inside the cabin as it feels more spacious, especially at the back. The boot space has been increased to 530 liters and all four doors can hold 1-litre bottles. The cup holders have been made deeper and the storage compartments have more space, making BMW 5 Series the perfect long drive companion on weekends.]
Electrically adjustable front seats come standard in the 2017 BMW 5 Series and the rear bench is wide enough to entertain three adults, while the center seat can be turned into a generously wide centre armrest. Four-zone climate control comes fitted in the 520d Luxury Line and 530d M Sports variants while a two-zone system is offered as standard on the rest of the variants.
An all-digital 12.3-inch instrument cluster has replaced the traditional analog dials and the highlight of the dashboard is the 10.25-inch color display. The multifunction center display can be controlled via hand gestures or an improved iDrive rotary knob+buttons setup. As much as six interior upholstery options are offered.
While the BMW 520d Luxury Line and 530d M Sports variants are fitted with 16-speaker, 600W, Harman Kardon system, the 520d Sports Line and 530I Sports Line comes with a 12-speaker, 205W unbranded surround sound system.
BMW has all added extra sound-deadening material in the headliner in order to make the cabin more peaceful for cherishing a chat with your fellow passenger or enjoying the beautiful music from your playlist.
As surprising as it may seem, the 530d M Sport variant, also gets the most luxurious front seats with comfort headrests and lumbar support adjust, adjustable bolstering, memory function for both the seats, heads-up display as well as a rear seat entertainment system (two 10.2-inch screen on the back of the front seats).
