It is one of the oldest forms of hatred in the world. It is one of those forms of hatred that perhaps for some strangely inexplicable reason refuses to fade away or die out in permanence. It’s struck a particular people with a form of vengeances that continues to strike over and over again, whether in a developing or a developed part of the globe.
Time and again, we hear from different parts of the world news about crimes of hate perpetrated against the Jews. And it must be said, with the rise in antisemitism, there’s nothing other than a rise in human indifference and intolerance about another race, cast, community or people.
Whether it’s Munich or Berlin, Amsterdam or Milan, or any other prominent part of the world, anti-Semitism continues to spur news headlines with shock and awe. And now, it appears that there’s anti-Semitism in London that’s reaching a worrisome mark. So the question is- how exactly is that and what has led to the situation?
But first up, things have reached a boiling point of sorts. So is this a vague assessment or a random statement? None, it’s a matter of fact supported by evidence and numbers. That anti-Semitism in London is not a brand new phenomenon is known to all is common, but what happened recently merits urgent action from the authorities.
According to confirmed news inputs, anti-Semitism in London has reached an all time high in a city described vividly as one of the most cosmopolitan of all world cities.
As a matter of fact, why our attention must be toward finding amicable means to protect the Jewish population is established by a finding of the Community Security Trust, also known as the CST. It provided vital information that the last month alone cut a ghastly figure and grim circumstances for London’s Jewery.
So how exactly is that?
In the month of May alone, there were as many as 201 incidents committed against the Jews, hence clearly suggesting that there’s been a rise in anti-Semitism in London.
Though, that being said, it is widely believed that due to the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, with Palestine and Israel being on fire and acting fiery for weeks together, has led to a situation where the average Jew based anywhere else feels threatened for personal safety and security.
The rising attacks on the Jews in London are also believed to have stemmed from the enraged scenes between Palestine and Israel.
To elaborate more about what happened in the month of May, there were twelve reports linked to direct assaults on the Jews with there being no fewer than 160 accounts of abusive behavior.
That said, let us elaborate on what the BBC had to say on the matter:
The total exceeds the previous record when 179 were recorded, in July 2014.
Other offences recorded by the trust included 20 threats and seven cases relating to damage and desecration, making it the largest number recorded in one month since it started recording the numbers in the 1980s.
There are about 300,000 Jewish people in the UK with two-thirds of those located in London, according to the CST. Then, the CST said there had been a fivefold increase in reports of anti-Semitic incidents since the escalation in tensions between Israel and the Palestinians, recording 86 anti-Semitic incidents, up from 16 in the previous 10 days.
