A number of important dates, significant to world history and as also the world’s present, beckon our attention. That’s also because all of these rest in the imminent future and are knocking on our doors. These are dates that circle spheres related to the world of entertainment, history and politics and hence, carry much importance.
On July the fourteenth, France will observe the St. Bastille day, which is the festival of the French revolution. Tom Cruise, and this will generate much attention from legions of his devoted fans, will observe his birth anniversary on July the third. Ditto for the other Tom; Hanks’ birth anniversary being ninth of the next month.
Similarly, Canada will observe the ‘Canada Day’ on July 1. And just three days after, one shall observe perhaps one of the biggest and most significant dates in all of the world; the fourth of July in America.
But starting from fourth and concluding towards the end of fifth in one of the most beautiful and serene cantons of Switzerland shall be a conference that carries significant weight and might for it carries much relevance for the present-day Ukraine.
Just how is that?
Nestled in the heart of Lugano, perhaps one of the most underrated cities in all of Switzerland, as also an important centre of commerce, will be a two-day affair focused just and solely on how to redevelop the bombarded and embittered Ukraine. It’s the very country that has inarguably faced the scorn of Russia in its absolute bloodiest wake.
And needless to say, Switzerland, among other countries, is truly endeavouring a spirit of enabling Ukraine to walk back on its two feet and hence, find its footing again.
At the heart of the two-day Lugano-bound affair is an amalgamation of free thinkers, economists, business leaders and history writers and economic experts who shall converse intricately about the next steps that need to be taken in order to bring back a sense of normality to the war-torn and heavily destructed Ukraine.
And the Swiss president, Mr. Ignazio Cassis himself is going to take part in a one-of-a-kind conference whose end objective is the upliftment of another European country, one from which many have already fled to Switzerland in order to seek a new chance at life; a second inning!
That being told, let us delve into greater details about a conference whose collective objective could well spark a new array of ideas, all of which could go a long way towards changing Ukraine for the better (excerpts taken from Swiss Info website):
The 5th Ukraine Reform Conference was due to take place in the southern city of Lugano in July. Switzerland was determined to go ahead with the meeting despite the Russian invasion. President Ignazio Cassis has decided to refocus priorities and reframe the event as a recovery conference.
Cassis, who also heads the Swiss foreign ministry, says 41 countries and 19 international organisations, including the World Bank and the United Nations, have received invitations to the conference. He envisions a high-level meeting with ministers, prime ministers and presidents in attendance. Cassis told Swiss public television SRF that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as well as the prime minister, Denys Shmyal, have agreed to join, either in person or by video link.
Cassis also invited British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who has not yet confirmed if he himself will attend or if he will send a representative. French President Emmanuel Macron is also on the participants’ list, according to media reports.
