Twitter has decided to increase their character limit from 140 to 280. The feature is now available to a smaller group of users to test it before actually rolling it out.
Unless and until you’ve been living under a rock or don’t give an absolute shit about Twitter, you would be familiar with the recent change in Twitter. So, this social media platform is thinking about going on a different path than what it actually started with.
Twitter was initially moving on with their idea of brevity with creativity, however, it seems now you can use Twitter to criticise someone with twice as many characters you had earlier. Because isn’t that the truth? Twitter is now the best way to criticise and abuse someone influential online.
The social media platform has decided to potentially increase their character limit from 140 to 280. The company on Tuesday announced that they will let a small group of users test the feature before actually rolling it out to the public.

This is a small change, but a big move for us. 140 was an arbitrary choice based on the 160 character SMS limit. Proud of how thoughtful the team has been in solving a real problem people have when trying to tweet. And at the same time maintaining our brevity, speed, and essence!

I really enjoy having a frame of 140 characters. Forces me to reconstruct and trim the fat off of thoughts. Keep it that way! #280characters

280characters will do to Twitter what flat surfaces have done to cricket – allowing mediocre batsmen to think they’re greats

Twitter allowing #280characters? BAD! I’ve never had a thought or idea that takes more than 140 characters.

As for me, someone who has been using Twitter for a long time now, the change is definitely going to snatch the edgy aspect of Twitter away. One of the major reason behind why there are so many people on the platform is the fact that Twitter makes you think twice about what you want to type. This makes your tweets snappier and concise. Something that has been missing from this world full of overly long writings.
